Its Canadian thanksgiving which is sort of a harvest festival feast thingy, American Thanksgiving is late November I think which I have been told that is like a dry run for Xmas meal.

Anyway, both are gorging to the point of explosion, pie and torpor in front of the TV.

Very sorry Badger, didn't realise that Canadian and American Thanksgivings are at different dates. I do know about the American one, as my nearest and dearest is originally from there - and I do look forward to the times we can celebrate it with other displaced Amerikans. I actually like Thanksgiving celebration meal better than the French or British Christmas one - and it never ends in front of the TV here, but I can easily imagine that it could!

How do you personally celebrate Thanksgiving (as I believe you are an immigrant yourself)?
What would be a typical Canadian Thanksgiving meal?
Ooops sorry, this is probably the wrong part of the forum to ask questions and blabber on. Embarassed

Oh we just treat treat it like a good old fashioned English family Sunday lunch, we have had roast veggies, cedar planked salmon steaks (Canadian have a Turkey), cranberry sauce and a glass of wine, we set the world to rights over the meal and are about to have a coffee (LSS is currently grinding beans) and then watch a silly movie, which today will be "How to train your dragon" (Proper Canadians watch sport).

To be properly Canadian we should have pumpkin pie and coolwhip for dessert, but we are not fans of pie (or dessert to be honest)..

Ah Badger, I have been out of England for 9 years now, but while I lived there I never had the cedar planked salmon steaks or cranberry sauce as part of a "good old fashioned English family Sunday lunch" - Smile
Your version does sound pretty good though.
I never fail to be impressed by anyone who doesn't like dessert. I wish. Pumpkin pie is OK, but I would probably pass on the coolwhip - whatever chemical concoction that is, no wonder you are not having any.

You're probably halfway through your coffee now, and your dragon must have started training. Enjoy your celebrations!

No I go and watch a replay of France vs. Romania (last night's football game) Very Happy

Oh we are recent Piscatarians so the salmon has replaced nutloaf as our meat substitute and the cedar planked fish is pretty damned good and tres canadien.

We decided to go walk off the roasties and took the dog out for a walk down to the river and back, collected conkers and enjoyed the brisk autumnal air.

Back now for a cup of Lady Grey and dragon training.
