My wife (Judy) and I (Larry) got into making Jam and Jelly because the food house we go to gave us a large bag of frozen blueberries last summer, and we had no idea what to do with them. Xmas is coming so we figured we'd try our hand at making jam out of them.

We now have 5 different varieties of jelly/jam and working on more. I found this site in a quest to find out a real beginners way of making them, and am still looking. I figured I'd ask, so here I am.

I'll be asking and telling in a different thread. The reading I've done so far has been helpful. A mention about picking blackberries reminded me that we have some growing along the fence, and we have no neighbors next door, so we will be picking and freezing them as we can..... if we can beat the wildlife to them mmmm

Hello, nice to meet you! hippy1

Spar's homemade damson jam is gorgeous, made from a homemade recipe too I think. Don't ask where we got the damsons from, lets just say he broke his rather crude foraging hook trying to get some more this year. Rolling Eyes It was quite funny as the end just shot off! Very Happy .

Good luck on your quest, and hope you have better luck than we did this year!

Centralia's a lot closer to me than UK, lol. Nice to meet you. If you haven't gotten it yet, the Ball Blue Book of Canning from the Ball canning company is a great start. My wife and I got it when we started canning a couple of years ago. It's got a good section on Jams, Jellies and Preserves. It is written step by step and a good book for beginners.
