default Hello,My name is Bunny

Post by bbaybe on 31st December 2010, 6:46 pm

Hello, my name is Bunny and I'm looking for more information on homesteading. I am in a rather unique position, as I am actually disabled in several ways. However, I have also enjoyed improvising and would like a chance to do so on a homestead. I know I can do it. The equipment that I will need won't be difficult to manufacture. I have several ideas on how to do it(although those, too I'm certain, will need to be improvised!) and I do enjoy hard work!
I have been actively doing research on everything from making soap from ashes to building barns, and currently manage livestock and save seeds and . I have several skills and am eager to learn more.

Contrary to the belief of one person on another forum, I do take care of myself and my animals and, no I do not abuse them.

I will gladly share any information I have acquired, although I'm still in the testing stages with much of it. I would rather test it now than have my life and the life of my family depend on it WITHOUT testing!
lol!

I am working on ways to earn money to do this, of course, as I do realize it won't be free. I would appreciate it if those who have negative comments would keep them to yourselves, as I have no intention of crushing YOUR dreams.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hello Bunny and welcome from me.

I look forward to reading more about your life and plans, it sounds great. You will find a wide range of folk here with a wide range of skills and interests, however, the most important thing you will find here is a non judgmental community.

Bright blessings

Well said, Badger.

Welcome Bunny. The thing you'll find conspicuously absent here is people telling you "That's a rotten idea!" More oft than not you'll hear "I've done that before too. Let me tell you how it turned out! Good Luck!"

Thank you all for the warm greetings! I admit I was a bit nervous when I posted that entry! I've been criticized before for being me, lol.

My Plans...Well, I'm working right now on researching just about everything having to do with homesteading. I hope within the next year or two to be able to afford a small acreage, possibly five or so acres, although I'll admit more would be preferred. I have been looking at a place in Nevada, but I haven't truly decided on a place yet. I still have some time, I suppose, but I am having trouble deciding. Some places are too cold(Alaska), some too dry (like Nevada), some are too perfect but expensive, lol. I would really like to find a place with no property tax(Nevada and Alaska were the only two states in the US I found with that feature so far.), so that I can live off the land without worrying about earning money. Sales tax probably wouldn't be too much of a problem, since I don't plan to spend too much money once I'm established.

I would like to get out of the cold, since winter is always painful for me. Basically I want to worry about myself, my family and survival, without worrying about "earning a living." I would rather earn my living through my own effort and avoid the almighty dollar altogether, whenever my homestead is established. I really want to be completely off the grid, without even worrying about ordering propane or if the water company got my check. I would like to have 'net access, but that would be my only bill, at least that's what I'm looking for, lol. What I'll GET....

I'm flexible, of course, in all this, lol.

Does it sound crazy?

Hello Bunny from Australia, I love your idea, I think its a grand plan and would love to see how you succeed and what challenges you face. I have always wanted to have a self sustaining lifestyle, but am no-where near it yet, but I can proudly say I haven't bought new clothing for 9 months and with two small children this is quite an achievement Smile Anyway welcome Smile BJM

Hi Bunny,

It DOES sound totally crazy, but that's why we're all here isn't it ?? Laughing

Bearing in mind how much work all this is, I am in awe of your determination and fortitude.
The Plan sounds like what many of us are striving for.
We too talk about about when we get 'set-up' how little we will need to live on but that day is far off at the moment.

Great plan - go for it !!

Thank you all for your wonderful warm welcomes! And yes, Lottie, I would love some parsnip crisps! They sound delicious!

Thank you, yes I realize it will be work, even more so being disabled, but if there's one thing I've never shied away from it's work!

I admit I may be a bit crazy for even entertaining the idea, but I fully intend to take my time to prepare and am doing MOUNTAINS of research! Sometimes it's frustrating when something doesn't turn out ,

but I enjoy it, actually. One of my strengths is improvising. I fully intend to utilize it!

Thank you once more for making me feel welcome, I truly appreciate it!
And in case you cannot tell, I enjoy these emoticons immensely! lol!
