Post by Sammigirl on 17th January 2011, 3:15 am

Hello all! Sam from Australia here Smile This year we are having a handmade Christmas! This were pretty tight this year and I ended up having to borrow money from my father in order to buy any presents at all......I also felt as if the whole thing was just so meaningless!

This year, we're going to have handmade gifts! We are also not cooking...we're going to go to the pub for lunch instead! (much to the disappointment of my mother ) I just feel as if it's all so commercial and meaningless and I want to show the children that it can be different. My children don't eat much and lots of food went to waste....so the pub it is!

So if anyone has any ideas on gifts that children can make which are simple I'd be interested to know. I already have my long list of knitted things that I will get started on shortly.

Cuppa time! xx Sam

Hi Sam. Glad to see you here. I'm always jealous when I hear about taking the family to the pub. Hard pressed to find anything in US you could really say you could take your family to. Just 'bars'. Sigh...

Welcome, welcome, and let us know how the knitting and gifting gets on.

Hello! Nice to meet you. hippy1

If your children are interested, I know a couple of knitted gifts they could make. I started knitting when I was about thirteen, and the book was given to me as a pressie from Pol and Worzel.

default Christmas

Post by Sammigirl on 19th January 2011, 9:43 pm

Yes well I was left at the end of Christmas day feeling um.....yucky.....I'd stood in the kitchen, had an argument with my husband, we had ruined potato salad, burned pork and kids who weren't really hungry anyway, and the floor was strewn with paper and plastic to pick up again....

I thought to myself...there has to be a better way....

default Pub

Post by Sammigirl on 19th January 2011, 9:52 pm

Awwww yeah that'd be so hard Sad I'm sorry that there isn't that kind of alternative there....the other thing I thought about was going to the beach for a bbq...but I guess over there it'd be funny to even think of the beach at Christmas. What about a shared lunch where everyone brings something?
