Soil Association given libel warning after objection to huge pig farm

Carter-Ruck denies stifling debate after group that opposed factory for 25,000 animals gets 'chilling' letter

Read the Guardian article, written by Felicity Laurence, here

About The Soil Association campaign "Not in my banger"

Help us campaign against a dramatic escalation of industrial pig farming
in the UK. If we don’t act now, thousands of pigs in the future could
be kept in massive factories - changing British farming forever.

You can find out more about, or join the campaign here

This would be the same Farter-Fuck (copyright Private Eye) who managed to get the Gruaniad gagged from reporting Parliamentary speeches during the issue of Trafigura illegally dumping toxic waste. That snake-tongued little charmer.

One and the same Billy, one and the same...

I think this is disgraceful behaviour and plain and simple bullying. I had a developer try that trick on me, once....to get me to stop a campaign against a proposed planning application.
I said " bring it on" and never heard any more.....

Of course the most celebrated case was where McDonald's brought their action for libel against a couple of campaigners for the rain forest. (the 'McLibel' case). They stuck to their guns, fought the case for several years, and cost McDonalds a huge amount in legal costs.

We once fought a campaign against a cement company that was polluting the air, and one of our members got a similar threat of libel action for revealing a few home truths about the company..... which the Environment Agency had to close down several times for lying about what they were doing!

I really hope they stick to their guns with this; the pork farmers had it bad enough recently and are only starting to come back, gods help them if they have to turn to this sort of mass-production mayhem as a result of pressure. I was never a big fan of sausages in the US because they're filled with who-knows-what, the meat here came as a huge surprise to me!

Not meaning to disrespect them at all, but if memory serves, they were on the dole, and had next to no assets, so did have nothing to lose.

And indeed they lost the case. On both hearings.

To be fair to McDonalds, some of the claims against them were a bit far-fetched : that they intentionally poison customers with contaminated meat and that they torture animals...
