It is not possible for the function to be disabled, it is a user opt in/opt out function.

If you do not wish to receive emails from the site then:

You need to go to your profile and click on the preferences tab.

Six options down is the bit for email notifications, you need to set that to NO, then scroll all the way down and save.

That should do it, it may not be instant, but the emails will stop,

So:

Profile

Preferences
>>
Always notify me of replies :
>>
No
>>
Save.
