After washing the bread bin, rinse & wipe the inside with a vinegar moist cloth, helps to prevent mould.

When you go away for a few days, leave a cut lemon in the kitchen. Keeps everything smelling fresh.

You can also leave a bunch of mint in a glass of water to do the same thing. (I hate coming back to a musty house!)

A dish of vinegar also absorbs odors. Leaves its own, slightly, but I don't mind it.

Crushed eggshells & water make a good scourer for vases.

The inside of your mug is brown with tea stains? a pinch or two of bicabonate of soda put in the mug and a little vinegar poured over it will sort it out. leave until it has stopped bubbling madly and then scrub a little.

Bicarb is also good for removing the smell and stains from vomit, urine or feaces. Strinkle on, leave to absorb then brush up. Can also be left on damp patches until dried, then vacc'd off.

Remove rust from cake tins by using a raw potato dipped in cleaning powder as a scourer.

Rub the bottom of barbecue pots & pans with soap before use, they soon clean off, good tip for going camping as well.

When a wastepipe bungs up, use a flexible curtainrod/wire & then flush with soda & boiling water.

To prevent the wastepipe from bunging up, regularly throw coffee grounds in. I would say not more than once a week or once a fortnight, though. It soaks up the grease and helps getting everything flushed.

If knives get smelly, push them into the earth several times then wash them as usual.

Parsley makes a fly deterrant.

A quick & easy way to dust ornaments & trinkets, use a large artists paint brush, slightly damp. Gets into all the nooks & crannys

A soft 1-2" paintbrush is also invaluable for cleaning dust off of Lego, for those of us who have to live with a major Lego urban development as an almost permanent feature in the living room ...

If you like to have broad leaved houseplants, large make-up brushes (like those for blusher) are great for dusting off the leaves.

To keep an unused teapot fresh, leave a fresh dry teabag or a sugar lump inside.

To clean off all the sticky mess from your barbecue after you've used it for smoking chillies ... Embarassed

Mix the ash into a paste with water, spread it around with a non-stick pan scourer, leave for a while then it scrubs off fairly easily Very Happy

Wood ash and a damp cloth is also one of the best ways of cleaning off the woodburner glass.
