Have just been sent a link to "Grow your Own" magazine with a discount code for an online shop with " great ideas for gardens and allotments"

Thought it might be worth a look so clicked on the link to the shop. And saw a product I suddenly realised I had been lacking all my growing life...

If you want to disguise your ugly grow bags, this pair of hessian 'grow your own' grow-bag covers are perfect. Simple and effective.

L93cm x W43cm
£12.95

Oh well, that's where I have been going wrong, all these years....my grow bags were obviously unsightly..... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy never mind that they grew my crops quite happily.

Seriously, they are HESSIAN SACKS...to cover up grow bags?

Am I missing the point, here? Rolling Eyes Shocked

Nope. You know what the old showman always said: 'There's one born every minute!'

I find it slightly disturbing but also rather amusing. I wonder how many they will sell.... Laughing

I have a load of old sacks in the barn...perhaps I should go into production?

Ah but my covers would not be NEW sacks, now would they?

it is funny BUT it is also a huge waste of resources and that is the bit that bothers me the most.

No no noooooo.... Sweetie you're missing a trick! Your 'old' sacks will be shabby-chic vintage authentic retro covers for gro-bags.

Very very desirable and hence probably worth even more than the ones they're selling. Especially if you point out that they've been hand sewn in a rustic hovel by woodland sprites.

But seriously, I see your point. It's how you educate sheeple to not desire this kind of worthless resource wasting tat that is the problem. Unfortunately as they're largely unthinking/brainwashed consumers where in hell do do we start?

Isn't being creative with the truth the basis of all good advertising? Wink

If we could tack a bit of Cath Kidson fabric on there as well you'd really be hitting the big time. What do you reckon then? £25 quid a pop?

Ooo I have a load of fabric I got from the Scrapstore sourced from my secret supplier who speciallises in retro, pre loved and vintage goods

I could make ties for the manky old pre loved and dirty vintage potato sacks hessian bags

mm, good idea! Shocked Very Happy

See, I don't have an issue with using up stuff which would otherwise be scrap, its just the concept of actually buying stuff like this from a catalogue which disturbs me...it is selling folk the idea that they HAVE to have stuff like this and therefore have to buy it....

I see an new craft workshop idea there.. Laughing

it all feels a bit like covering up piano legs though... I mean, what is so offensive about a grow bag? Shocked ( As long as it is peat free, of course....) Laughing Wink

I love the idea of a 'pre-loved' hessian sack....

I once saw an earthenware crock in a catalogue which was for storing potatoes, and it stated that it 'was the solution to ugly potato storage problems'!!

oh, lordy! (or whatever interjection...)

says the one who's recently been accused of living a "frugal" life. Shocked For no apparent reason I must say.

I don't think that would be an accusation, Lakshmi, I would take that as a compliment Very Happy

I would, but the person who said it sounded as if it was bad... ah well.. their problem! I live within my means. I live a good life, but I don't waste anything if I can help it.
