Morning everyone!

Having a bread making problem that I'm hoping someone out there might be able to help with.

Been using the same recipe for years and no change in ingredients, but my last two loaves have come out rather strange. On the outside they look exactly the same as usual, but once you cut into them the inside is well slightly gooey. Edible and has a slight crumb to it, but a bit wet if you know what I mean.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Everything I'm using is in date. Could it be a yeast problem - too old? But then it rises fine. Or might the problem be my breadmaker? I was only a cheap one from Woolworths (RIP) but is about 7 years old.

Any suggestions gratefully received. Bread prices seem to be rocketing at the moment in our local shops (as is butter incidentally), so I could really so with not having to buy loaves, but I'm not sure we can keep eating ones like this!

Could be the temperature in the bread machine. If it's taking awefully long to get to temp, it may not be at temp for quite so long as it used to. Outside will not look too much different, as they're not wildly hot to begin with, but inside may not be getting as hot for long enough. Probably difficult to guage a bread machine's temperature over time though.



Also, if the humidity has been ridiculously high on the day you're baking, that can certainly have an effect too. Bread is a living breathing thing (well, the culture anyway), so it's always up to interpretation.



Does your bread machine have variable time settings? If so, try another 15 min on next loaf, and see if that sorts things. If so, either carry on baking, or look into a new unit.
