Finally done it

Post by freebird on 20th October 2011, 1:13 pm

I've been doing 'shall I, shan't I' for a few weeks now, reading forum posts. Well here I am, officially in Greater London, though old enough to think of it still as Surrey. Always wanted to be out in the sticks, but life has dictated otherwise, and I reckon I'm here to stay, in suburbia, with a six-lane main road right outside my front door.

I'm a maker and doer, of all sorts, from jams and preserves, to homemade bug hibernation boxes, hand-made books, cards - a professional calligrapher for 20 years until life went wrong in 2000. Retrained since, and now work as a gas engineer. Being self-employed, I am finding that I can start to bring the calligraphy back into my life in the times when work is slack.

I don't do waste. It distresses me immensely. I can't subscribe to the throw-away society, and get frustrated when there appear to be no other options open to me. Been trying to keep things simple for a long time now, but harmonious living is something that requires work, application and a measure of determination. It can be very easy to fall back on the 'cheap 'n' easy'.

Well I guess that's enough to be going on with. Looking forward to getting to know y'all.
