Recycling Christmas
This may seem a little premature, but we have just sorted out the Christmas lights and decided that the set that don't work are to be thrown away. Looks like too many bulbs have blown to be able to replace them. So I've had a look online and it appears that one should take one's Christmas lights to the RecyclingCentre as a "small electrical appliance" As Mr JG said (thus prompting me to look this up) There's a lot of copper wire in the strings of lights.

Re: Recycling Christmas
Our groaning recycling box has just been emptied. As well as Christmas lunch for 15, we had a party at Solstice. And to cap it all, one of our green boxes disappeared a few weeks ago and I only got round to asking for another one last week, so it isn't here yet.
Good to know that you can recycle wrapping paper and Christmas cards in the box (not that our cards have gone yet)

Re: Recycling Christmas
I save paper & cards for re use, the paper to wrap & the cards to make new cards.

Our local authority isn't very keen on wrapping paper because of the foil on some of it which is quite annoying. I try to buy non-foil paper (tho I sometimes forget if it's a bargain!) and we light the woodburner with it. Real sellotape is biodegradable which cheers me up. I do get a bit fed up with Christmas cards with glitter on, as you can't recycle them, or really burn them, or use them to write shopping lists on. Not keen on glitter!!

Re: Recycling Christmas
Miss JG sorted out wrapping paper, I'm pretty sure that most of ours didn't ahve glitter.. I usually keep some for re-use, but have so much, I have restricted myself to a couple of bits this year.

Re: Recycling Christmas
I normally empty out the compost from the bin about now, riddle it & store it in bags, I then use all of the old wrapping paper to start the next years compost after taking out the foily type stuff, any of the ribbon/tape that doesnt compost down gets riddled out later...
it wasn't done conciously to, but I suppose it could be seen as sealing up the old year & starting afresh with the new one...
