According to the BBC, petrol sales are suffering a huge drop:

But why is this presented like it is bad news ? Is this not what was supposed to happen through increasing taxes on motoring, and giving incentives for more efficient vehicles ?

I thought this was good news. But I do think insufficient reference was made to the amount of "panic buying" that went on prior to this.

If someone like me, who uses the car only once or twice a week and doesn't go very far fills up the tank, it lasts a long time. If everyone who normally fills infrequently fills up at once it is likely that sales will fill the following month.

But I am delighted to see fuel sales going down.

I love trains.
