default APTGW bodger's ball 2013

Post by Chilli-head on 30th October 2012, 8:56 pm

It appears that the Association of Pole Lathe Turners and Green Woodworkers Bodger's Ball 2013 will take place at Wimpole Hall in Cambridgesire. Which I guess means our newly formed (Wim)pole lathers local group are hosting. Well, talk about in at the deep end !

Should be fun though; date penciled in on the calendar, and I suppose I'd better get building a shave horse to go with my pole lathe ...

I'm not aware of a web page for it yet. If I find one, I'll let you know.

A web search finds lots about previous year's events though, for anyone wanting to know what it is about. There are some videos of the "log to leg" challenge - a race to make 2 matching windsor chair legs from a log in a matter of minutes; it is quite impressive ! It would probably take me the whole weekend Embarassed

For anyone interested in the goings on at Wimpole hall - including the Wimpole lathers and hopefully soon some more info about the Bodgers' ball, Simon (forester at Wimpole) has made a very pretty site here :

A video of a previous Bodger's ball, and the booking form for this year's, is now on the APTGW web site:

http://www.bodgers.org.uk/events

The general public visiting the Wimpole estate will be able to drop in too, I believe, and for NT members that's free. So if you fancy a day out - come and say Hi to the Wimpole Lathers !

I take it has nothing to do with the laundry day for nuns head dresses... whistle2

Hope it goes well...

There are some photographs taken by the local organiser, SImon the Wimpole forester, here, if anyone is interested. There is even a Chilli-head in there, with a keen young apprentice woodturner.

They're lovely photos - it looks as if it was great fun but cold!!
