default Deal or no deal ..?

Post by Chilli-head on 8th July 2013, 1:07 pm

I'm talking about the Green Deal, of course.  No deal, by the look of things:

BBC wrote:
Only four people have so far signed up to a flagship government scheme to make homes more energy-efficient.

The Green Deal, which was launched six months ago, was designed to provide measures such as home insulation.

I remember Billy predicting it would be a fiasco some time ago.  Spot on, it seems.  With the £100 non refundable assessment fee, and delivery left in the hands of the likes of British Gas who really just want an excuse to sell you a new boiler, it is little wonder.  I wonder how much of our money the govenrment spent on this one.

Would not trust British Gas as far as I could throw them after they left my brother-in-law with no heating for the best part of half a term. Although he had a three star boiler policy, as he wasa deputy head in a primary school he was unable to take time off school to be there when an engineer called. It was completely non-negotiable, so he did without heating for much of the autumn/winter term until he was on school holiday. A company which has a policy like that can't be completely trusted...

Hear, hear! They terrified one of our customers, telling her that her boiler was dangerous (erm, nothing in writing, no warning notice) to try to get her to buy a new one. And my next-door neighbour has been paying for their service contract, but has now stopped. She asked me to service her 35+ year old boiler, and looked on open mouthed as I dismantled all the parts and gave them a good clean - it needed it and took nearly two hours. "I've never seen BG do any of that", she told me - "they used to be here about 15-20 minutes".
