Chinese moon mission

default Chinese moon mission

So [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].   I suppose mostly to show that they are capable of it, but not only that ....

"[Prof Ouyang Ziyuan] pointed out the potential riches in terms of minerals and metals, which could eventually be mined. "The Moon is full of resources - mainly rare earth elements, titanium, and uranium, which the Earth is really short of, and these resources can be used without limitation."

... Never mind the energy and pollution inherent in getting there, let alone bringing anything useful back.  I hope this remains just a fantasy !

I'm reminded of Godfrey Reggio's Koyaanisqatsi, and the slow motion shot of the Saturn V launch at the beginning, And the Hopi proverb near the closing credits:

"If we dig precious things from the land, we will invite disaster."

I find it terrifying that people still have such a cavalier attitude to the world's (or moon's) resources. Why ever does Prof Ziyuan think that resources from the moon can be used without limitation??
