A fresh cup of tea - at the Wimpole Christmas craft fair

default A fresh cup of tea - at the Wimpole Christmas craft fair

Post by Chilli-head on 16th November 2014, 8:38 pm

Spent a damp day at the Wimpole craft fair.  We were set up outside under shelters, doing a bit of green woodwork.  Meanwhile, Simon the Wimpole forester had set up his blacksmith's shop in our midst.  It was a chilly day, but Simon sorted this in typical style:

This is his fire log, made using a big and rather scary chainsaw:

A hole in the side of the log has a fire lit in it to set it off:

A hole cut down from the top of the log to meet the hole cut in the side works as a chimney, and soon the whole log starts to catch, and burns like a rocket !

Now all that is left is to make 3 iron brackets to serve as a sort of triivet - easy if you have a forge to hand - and fill the kettle.  As it was raining by now, there was no need to go in search of a tap !

Wow, that's a real 'log burner'. Will have to give it a go sometime, I have no shortage of big logs and a man with a chainsaw.
(Is it only me? All of a sudden photographs are appearing instantly - I usually have to wait a few minutes)
