default Pumpkin recipes

Post by Chilli-head on 25th January 2015, 6:38 pm

Ok. Amongst the tail end of last year's produce, I have 3 spare pumpkins. Of the squash, I normally favour butternuts, but I have these and it seems wrong to waste them. Anyone have a favourite use for pumpkin ? Obviously I know about pumpkin pie. And I suppose I could curry it. Anything else ?

I am toying with a variant of marrow rum ...

We're big soup fans. I use a lot of squash / pumpkin in soup & particularly like it with a slug of soy sauce & 5 spice.

I have just read a description of marrow rum as "looking and smelling like the kind of puddle you find outside a cow shed". So maybe not.

Soup is always a good option though. Some coriander might be good; I can imagine the soy helping to bring out some flavour.

It's not a pumpkin recipe, but I make marrow and tomato chutney every year. It's a really good, go-with-anything type of chutney. Happy to pass on the recipe if you think it might be useful.

I had some great pumpkin and tomato soup at a friend's house - it was spiced up with some cumin and some kind of pepper - probably cayenne?
