Reusing feathers from pillow for darught excluder??
We are about to dispose of some elderly feather pillows that are no longer fit for purpose.
We are also about to make some new draught excluders for our doors.
Before I buy some packs of toy stuffing from John Lewis, I thought I would ask if anyone has ever tried removing old feathers from pillows and stuffing them into something new?

Re: Reusing feathers from pillow for darught excluder??
Sounds do-able, if a bit messy. We had some cushions in the living room which dropped feathers everywhere. What a mess !
The one thing NOT to use old feathers from cushion stuffing for is animal bedding. I heard of someone who discovered the hard way that the fire retardant is poisonous to chickens
My parents have some home made draught excluders, that are a knitted tube (not circular needle I don't think, but thes sort of knit one, slip one method you might use use on say a scarf). These are stuffed with that thin, closed cell polythene foam sheet that is sometimes used as packaging - particularly for electrical goods - rolled up. They are a bit light, but don't quite blow away in the draught under the door ! The best bit is if any driven rain gets under the door, it dries out quickly.

Thanks C-H.
We have one draught excluder which is stuffed with old tights and is probably about 30 years (or more old) I was still adding to it once it was in use, but finally declared it full. These days it would take me a long time to collect enough tights I think.
