default Hello from Gloucestershire

Post by Mrs Green on 17th January 2010, 8:20 am

Ahh, I posted in another forum before finding the introductions page.

I'm Rae, aka Mrs Green and live with my hubby and our 8 year old daughter in semi rural Gloucestershire. We grow a bit of our own food and a lot of horsetail, run a woodburner for fuel (although we've run out of wood at at £65 for a load which lasts a week I'm currently wearing a snow suit and feather jacket instead), I'm a struggling and reluctant needle and thread person, but I can knock up a feast from nothing Very Happy

Our passion is rubbish - reducing landfill waste to be precise. And we're the family featured on this thread. http://forum.homemadelife.com/wombling-crafting-f16/just-found-this-t230.htm

Hubby built some LED lights last summer and we're on our first winter of running them from a small solar panel - it doesn't function too well when covered in snow funnily enough and he recently converted a friends old shower into a tankless water heater for the kitchen, which has reduced the amount of times we need to use our electric immersion heater - yay!

I think that;s about it, oh, apart from my love of using herbs and essential oils to help with minor ailments for myself and family Smile

Great to be here - have a lovely Sunday

Hi Mrs Green and welcome from another newbie - I read your blog from time to time and also have a bit of a thing about rubbish. We are currently saving wine bottles to use in the floor of the gite as extra insulation. We need about 500 ore and I am thinking about spending a day camped out at a recycling point asking people for their empties. That should be fun to explain in French Shocked

500 empty wine bottles? Just need to have a forum lunch meeting and that should be easily resolved.

Hi Mrs G, good to see you.

Goodness, there are lots of you around today Smile Thanks for the welcome and good luck with your floor insulation, Rosie. Have you seen 'Garbage Warrior'? It's a truly inspiring film about an architect who uses 'rubbish' to make beautiful houses from. He uses wine bottles a lot

Hello.

Some of the over 300 comments on your article are incredible, the ignorance of some people in this day and age is amazing. Such as there are many problems in this World today but trash isnt one of them!!
