default Badgerology

Post by Adrian on 14th March 2010, 10:45 am

Good, morning, good afternoon, good day.

I'm Adrian, otherwise known as Badger, partly for my prematurely graying beard and temples and partly for my penchant for saying "rough as a badgers arse".

I am your host/webmaster/general admin and body of the dog. I set up and run this forum for mine and for your pleasure. Be most welcome.

I am what is known in the common parlance as an ExPat. I moved from the UK in 2006 to rural Nova Scotia which is on the West Coast of Canada and am typically 4 hours behind GMT. Why, you may ask, did I do it? Good question. Well my partner (oft referred to as my longsuffering spouse or Maffoo, my husband of 4 years and partner of 19) and I grew weary of city life and being country boys by breeding and nature, set off to find ourselves a little part of the English countryside to call our own. Alas we discovered that we had been priced out by bankers with ponies. To cut a very long story short, we ended up in a 200 year old farmhouse with a comfy acreage, two cats, two dogs, a whole mess of rowdy chickens and a general sense of contentment.

I am a Landscape gardener and designer by choice and an Environmental Horticulturist by training. My previous existence in the UK is now a memory and I no longer use those old qualifications and training, so try not to refer to them.

I am a mad keen crafts person, often flitting from one to another as I try out new things, much to the annoyance of my longsufferingspouse, but thankfully with his tolerance as well. I run our smallholding, household and my business, while he does the important work and earns the cash. I am practical by nature and will try most home repairs (except electrickery) and like to experiment in the kitchen, though being a vegetarian for 27 years has left me with a limited repertoire and a longing lust for stirfried veggies and mash.

This is a new section to the forum, so feel free to ask any questions, and certianly feel free to post your own profile

Sounds an interestingly different neck of the woods. I'm think "The Shipping News"...great film! Cool

What is your growing season? Do you have any ways to extend it?

landscape gardener, eh? I used to do garden design too but no longer except on my own patch or playing with friends. Nova Scotia souds amazing.

Love your "rough as a badger's arse" ... having no such personal knowledge (in an biblical sense) of badgers I must bow to your greater experience
