Yes, I've noticed that the pansies I planted in pots for over-wintering have come back with a vengeance, and are flowering their little hearts out. All kinds of purples and maroons, really heart lifting.

Did a big clean up today, mowed the grass, watered, did a little weeding. Noticed a few flower buds on my stock and petunia, so hopefully I'll have a bit more colour soon. My sunflowers and sweet peas are shooting up and I have a beautiful aquilegia that's in full flower at the moment as well as a broom with the most amazing smell. Happy days!

I've planted lots of flowers, 6 specimen plants and 12 lobelia. i need to get some violas to fill in the gaps tomorrow so that the cats don't come back.

and our back garden is looking really smart (apart from what we used to loosely describe as a lawn which doesn't really merit the term grass any more!)

Have planted out Nasturtiums, Calendulas and other companion planting flowers into veg garden and also into big tubs to stand either side of the door inside the polytunnel.

The nasturtiums look so colourful, they always make me smile...

Planted loads of seeds, blackbirds then promptly dug for worms in all the pots, so all the pots now have old hanging basket tops on till the plants come through & I had to sweep again.

...but they sound so beautiful, you can't be cross with them for long. (I keep forgetting to put netting over pots with seeds sown in, so have to do the whole re-seeding/sweeping thing too)

I've been doing something I should do more often - just BEING in the garden, and appreciating it. It's nothing special, just a country town garden, and I certainly wouldn't want to open it to visitors, but to me it's so beautiful at the moment.Vegetables looking green, kohl rabi looking strange, chickens pottering about, a slow worm making me jump as it shot through the plant I was watering, a frog pushing up its head out of the pond and looking daft with a layer of duck weed like a hat - and the promise of more good things to come as things ripen.

That's it, eulogy over - I'll get back to my list of jobs now!!

That is something I really have to work at here, so often all I see is a huge list of chores, when I look at our place...whereas in fact it is beautiful, if a bit wild!

Blackbirds are really funny. We have 2 male & 2 female & I think some young ones. Favourite pastime, as well as singing, is waiting for Sparhawk in the garden & then trying to part his hair as they fly across. At the moment they are really pecking around the pots for whatever & making attempts to get in the kitchen. Love them like crazy.

I ran a Den building course here in the wood for Early Years practitioners on Monday night ( people who work with under 6 year olds...)

One of the many best bits was when I was introducing the idea of building micro dens for soft toys...I often use some of the RSPB singing bird soft toys for this ..and the participants then build nests for them.......I produced a Chaffinch and a Blackbird and demonstrated the recorded calls which they do if you press them...and immediately we were surrounded by REAL Blackbirds and Chaffinches, all challenging the "interlopers"

The learners on the course were absolutely amazed at this reaction.....

We are dead heading the roses hoping they will flower again. It has been a very good roses year so far with many bunches in the house and brilliant displays outside.

Today I'm going to tend my son's flower beds and lay down some grass clippings as mulch, cut some weeds (they're rather prolific!) and try to give everything a general tidy if I can. The dahlias look splendid and I hope if I can cover them well enough they'll make it next year. I also want to get two trellises for my clematis which are going great guns - they're new, and apparently I should cut them well back for the first year, but when do I do that, anyone know? Now or in spring?

I imagine it would depend on which group they belong to, Hathorite. I do my early spring ones after they've flowered, summer flowering ones in early spring, darned if I can rememeber no 3 group Embarassed But I'm sure someone will be along, with better Clemaits knowledge.
