Now this is for those people that are allowed to use home made stuff as those of us in the U.K. aren't allowed to make this sort of home brew...

But came across this site, hope somebody can benefit from it as I am not allowed to...

Excellent - thank you. I've used some of these remedies but always like to try new ones.

I have sparked debates in various places at various times & been told that home made pesticides are not allowed to be used in this country, although there is a companion planting section on there so I haven't quite got around to it but I have put together a companion planting list anyway...

Hmmm, if I wasn't living in the UK, & I had problems with rose sawfly larvae stripping the leaves off of my roses, is there anything anyone could suggest I could make up to get rid of the little sods...

Uh, just incase I decide to move abroad, take my roses with me & they were to suffer with the problem ...

I use a jet of water from the high pressure side of the borehole.

Or hand picking , dropped to a conveniently waiting beak of a hen.

I ususally have problems with gooseberry sawfly, and have picked loads off by hand in the evening after school (it's very therapeutic - you can even name them before you squash them if you want...). This year, however, there has obviously been a bit of damage from the state of the leaves, but I haven't been able to find any of the blighters. I can only assume that the birds have been doing it for me (so all of the winter feeding has paid off!) (The gooseberry is away from the chickens, or we wouldn't have any berries either!)

Thanks for that I will bare it in mind if I should go...

I did wonder about using watered down washing up liquid, then I had a vision of lots of the little blighters laying on the ground legs skywards, Oh & in this vision they were under the goosegogs, blackcurrant & redcurrant too...

(try again)

I found this great recipe and had to share how to make pesticides from garden ingredients, I know that I tend to let the good bugs get rid of the "bad" bugs, but occasionally they are outnumbered and need some help! I think I will try one on my basil as it is infested with little grasshoppers mmmm Oh I re-read this and realised I have used the chilli one but with lux soap, it worked a treat Very Happy

I love her footnote "Leonie says, "Pest remedies, even natural ones, should be the last resort in your garden. By keeping an eye on what's happening in the garden you will be able to treat problems as they arise."

I used a similar chilli mix for greenfly on my chilli plants. Amazing fun to watch them all marching off in haste !

With the new gardening season upon us, & just in case I should win the lottery & decide to leave these shores, I thought I would give this a bump & see if there are any other ideas out there, Oh & it may be useful as we now have a lot more people that arent subject to the restrictions in the UK...
