??? How is "You have to use shower gel in the shower" a rule of society expressed in story form?

I think you and Mike have converged on the excruciating fact that modern "society rules" (as Dandelion depicts) are made up by advertising people who's sole aim is to increase the profits of the company (or to personally get themselves an award), not guide the population in an honest way.

Would 'respected' be a preferable word? (Just trying to get my head around this one!)

The planet doesn't need saving, we can pollute it to hell in a handbasket and it will still exist.

it is WE ( and all the other lifeforms we are affecting) who need saving...from the effects of our own greed and selfishness.

Don't apologise - it's worth ranting about!

I agree with you, but I wonder if people who say that we need to save the planet mean that unless we treat it (and its inhabitants) with respect we're all doomed anyway?

James Lovelock does have a prediction that the Earth will turn in to a more Mars type planet due to our overheating it and destroying the natural balances...so in that case the Earth in its entirety does need saving...from our greed and selfishness.

There is a difference between the world and the planet.
