It's pouring with rain here now and I'm just hoping that it keeps it up and uses up all the rain that would otherwise fall tomorrow. Fingers crossed! But am packing water proofs just in case - looking forward to seeing your place CW!

Don't worry - one cake already made! Very Happy

My biggest problem is trying to dry all my washing as it's rather wet outside at the moment... bigthink LMC may be a tad short on clothing for the weekend otherwise!

Hmmm.
Daughter won't come without mother, and a row with mother suggests she won't come.

Whether or not to stuff them both and come alone... :?

CW - the problem is that she doesn't actually have that many clothes and does go through them at quite a rate. Panic over though as managed to dry them with the residual heat from the oven after baking brownies!

Ah. Didn't understand the nuances of your post.

Can you come with DD but sans Mum?

How old is DD? El is nearly 10, if that is any help? If a similar age, they could be company?

I was full of indecision right up until I found a letter from the council threatening me with eviction if I don't get my allotment more tidy. Embarassed
It is now very clear to me what I should do.

Sorry. Maybe next time.

Camera at the ready!

although how much stuff in the wood will actually happen rather depends on the weather, its a bit damp here and rather chilly!

May have to sit indoors and eat cake/drink tea - oh the hardship!

Was great Very Happy

Budburst and LMBB, Dandelion and their OH's , Mrs C, Mr C and LMC, Elen and her OH, Compostman, Compostgirl and I have had a lovely day today!

SO sorry to those who had to miss it, we didn't get to do much in the wood as it piddled down with rain most of the day but LOTS of tea was drunk, cake, scones, biscuits etc consumed, cider sampled, wine imbibed, pizza and pasta and hummous and bean salad eaten.

LMC and LMB are adorable! and SO well behaved and interested in all that was going on around them! ( and boy, was there a lot going on!)

Hens admired, guinea pig cuddled, rabbit stroked, cats terrified by small people ( why? who knows?)
D and Mr D had to leave after tea time, BB and Mr BB left after part 1 of supper ( thank you Elen and OH for yummy bean salad and pasta!)

Mrs C, Mr C, Elen and Paul stayed and ate part 2 of supper, Pizza, washed down with lots of wine...thank you CM!

Elen and Paul left late on after more chat and wine and laughter.

Mrs C, Mr C and LMC now ensconced ( love that word!) in lovely clean and tidy spare room ( it is TOO WET outside and I am not mean enough to make them camp!)

Have had lovely day and hope all visitors did as well.

Yes we did, but understood why you felt you needed to stay at home!

Would have offered you indoor shelter as well, it has rained a lot here in the last few days!

Glad to hear you all had a great meet-up! Tell me...is it normal to have so much wet rainy weather in your area in August? For us, it is 99 degrees F....37C here today, very dry, August is a hot dry month for us. Usually no rain. ??

Oh what a lovely day you all had. I wish I had been able to come but in the light of our house advert being in The Times today, I would have had to cancel (double cancel?!) because of getting extra deep-clean and polishing type housework done.

Lizbuff13 - CW and I are on the western side of Britain (I'm in WET West Wales and she a few counties further east) and although we had good weather until about mid July (lotsa sunshine), we have had rain pretty much regularly since. August USED to be a hot dry month when I was a kid, but I lived in the South then (Hampshire). Being on the western side of Britain we get the wet weather travelling westwards and folks on the east coast have it much drier as the weather's spent by the time it reaches them. All to do with precipitation and heavy clouds not making it over the mountains and such stuff as I once learned in geography at school . . .

Lizbuff again - just noticed that you live in Salem. We have a village called Salem about 14 miles N-E of here (near Llandeilo). It is a fairly common place name in Wales, and there is a VERY famous Welsh painting of an old Welsh lady in a paisley shawl and tall black Welsh hat in a Chapel in Salem, Gwynedd (N. Wales). [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Sorry CW - hijacked your thread!!!

Hope you have our sunshine this morning.

Thank you for the information. It is interesting to learn about the differences in our areas. For us, our garden has been behind about 1 month this year because of our abnormal wet rainy cold June, however, things are back to normal here and we are expecting 100 degrees today and tomorrow. We usually get a very hot week in August of 100 degree temps and this is it!

I think I was surprised to think of rain crashing the meet-up party. Of course, here in the PNW, our coastline is smothered in heavy fog, which leaves everything wet like rain, especially when we have heat advisorys in the valleys. The heat holds the fog from rolling in, so it settles on the coast. Sometimes it seems you are in 2 different worlds when traveling only 10 miles because of the weather changes.

I know that it is a humid rainy season for Florida about now also. It is interesting to learn about the climate in Britain as it so affects what we are growing. Thanks for sharing!

Ah today has been hot, sunny and ideal or playing in the woods.....

Argghhhh!

Have just waved off Mrs C and family, after a breakfast, a wander around and a natter, a really good pub lunch and then more tea and cake.

I think they had a good time. Smile I know we did, this weekend.

it was lovely to meet up with all of those who came and I will be doing it again soon, maybe at half term in October if the weather is good?
