I know there are several fans of the late great Humph on here, so be sure to be listening tommorrow (Monday 30th) at midday for the Humph memorial concert:

Tomorrow, 12:00 on BBC Radio 4 (FM only)

Humphrey Lyttelton's son Stephen introduces an evening in celebration of his father, the acclaimed jazz musician, band leader and much-loved host of Radio 4's perennial antidote to panel games 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue'.

An all-star cast of friends and admirers drawn from the worlds of music and comedy includes Wally Fawkes, Stacey Kent, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden, Barry Cryer, Tony Hawks, Andy Hamilton, Sandi Toksvig, Jeremy Hardy, Rob Brydon, Jack Dee, Elkie Brooks, Jools Holland, Charlie Watts the Humphrey Lyttelton Band.

I suppose I shouldn't boast, but for one night only I was sound engineer for that man. What a gent, very patient and never once pointed out that I had no idea what I was doing Laughing

Thanks to my Dad's working life (as Chief Enginner at ATV Studios Elstree and then later at ATV/ Central TV Birmingham) which meant him being in charge of everything relating to the fabric of studios etc ... except the artistes bit..so all the studios, wiring, lighting etc ...had to be placed by his minions, so the sound/light/camera engineers etc could use them)

He knew a LOT of people who were artistes...so I had a lot of honourary "Uncles" and "Aunties" in the late 60's and 70's and early 80's who were actually famous recorded, TV and radio artistes ( actors, musicians, comedians, etc etc ...) as well as calling Sir Lew Grade "Uncle Lew"

And Humph was one of my other "uncles" ..and he was lovely. A true gentleman, a wonderful musician and a very kind man.

I only knew him as an adult from the radio progs and some jazz concerts, but I have an overiding memory of him at a party when I must have been about 8? playing a song just for me.. because I asked him to...( Red Sails in the Sunset I think...but it is a long time ago!)

A lovely man, much missed..
